Born October 5, 1966 he obtained ND General Arts from The Polytechnic, Ibadan , Nigeria and won the best student prize in 1988. He also obtained Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University , lle-lfe, Nigeria . He had the overall best results in Fine Arts in 1997. Earlier in 1992, he had trained under the legendary Lemma Guya at the African Art Museum & Training Institute, Debre-Zeit , Ethiopia to become the foremost Nigerian to master and practise Painting On Animal Skin, an art form developed by Lemma Guya.
Through constant studio experiments spanning 10 years (1989 to 1996), Mufu developed a unique painting technique (ARAISM), which he also launched with a solo exhibition of 32 paintings at the Goethe-lnstitut (German Cultural Centre), Lagos , Nigeria in May 1998. He has taken part in many group shows in Nigeria , France , Austria , Belgium and the United Kingdom .
Mufu was the Curator and Artist-ln-Residence for Ajibuiu-Moniya Gallery where he initiated, organized and managed many arts-related events between 1997 and 2002. He was one of the sixteen artists selected from 7 countries (Ghana, UK, USA, Trinidad, Cuba, Brazil and Nigeria) and commissioned to take part in an exhibition tagged 16 Pieces to commemorate Black History Month in London. Organized by Ifa-Yoruba Contemporary Arts Trust (l-YCAT), He also held a joint show with Suzy Gillette, a British artist, in 2000.
Former Contributing Editor of the UK publishedNigerian Videos Magazine, Mufu's critical reviews have been published in local and foreign journals, newspapers and exhibition catalogues. He has also presented papers at various artistic gatherings between 1999 and 2006. He maintains a weekly column, ARTSSESSMENT in The Guardian newspaper.
