Araism Movement was established and formally launched on Saturday July 22, 2006 with an exhibition of paintings in Araism by the proponent of the technique, Mufu Onifade and five of his disciples: Olaniyi Omojuwa, Tope Oguntuase, Dotun Popoola, Abiola Mautin-Akande and Jonathan Ikpoza. This epoch-making event was held at Bruce Onobrakpeya’s Harmattan Workshop Gallery , Victoria Island, Lagos , Nigeria .

Born October 5, 1966 he obtained ND General Arts from The Polytechnic, Ibadan , Nigeria and won the best student prize in 1988. He also obtained Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fine Arts from the Obafemi Awolowo University , lle-lfe, Nigeria . He had the overall best results in Fine Arts in 1997. Earlier in 1992, he had trained under the legendary Lemma Guya at the African Art Museum & Training Institute, Debre-Zeit , Ethiopia to become the foremost Nigerian to master and practise Painting On Animal Skin, an art form developed by Lemma Guya.

Ara studio's skeletal existence dates back to October 2002 when the decision to run a most thriving studio in Nigeria became the only available option. On February 1, 2003, it was innaugurated with a dance-theatrical interpretation of a painting. While Mufu Onifade produced by Mufu Onifade, it was performed by the Crown Troupe of Africa. This unique approach to art and performance, which occurred for the first time in Nigeria , was choreographed by Segun Adefila, young, talented and excessively creative Theatre director/choreographer.
